Independent law firm Schoenherr has won the prestigious Cham-bers Europe Award for Excellence for South Eastern Europe. The award recognises the pre-eminence of law firms in key prac-tice areas and other notable achievements over the past 12 months, including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth or excellence in client service.
The last 12 months have been an outstanding success for Schoenherr in South Eastern Europe. Key deals for the offices in the region included; advising Europolis on the EUR 220 million forward purchase of the Barbu Vacarescu Project in Bucharest, advising leading regional construction company PORR in acquiring a 50% share in a concession company that builds and will operate a section of a highway from Serbia to Montenegro, and advising private equity group Advent International on the acquisition of a controlling interest in KAI Group, Bulgaria's leading ceramic tiles producer.
“The award reflects the importance of the region for Schoenherr,” says managing partner Christoph Lindinger. “We were one of the first international firms to open up in Bucharest (1996), and have expanded throughout South Eastern Europe ever since. It is great to get this recognition for all of those in the firm that have worked hard to make our international adventure a success.”
The award was not the first one for Schoenherr this year, in March the firm won the Austrian Law Firm of the Year 2008 award from the London-based legal publisher International Financial Law Review (IFLR), and also received the International Law Office Cli-ent Choice Award 2007 for Austria.
